We went to visit Great Grandpa today in Hamilton. I have explained to the kids before that Grandpa is blind but as they get a little older, they need certain things explained again as they have more questions and may forget the conversations from before they were "big".
We took Grandpa outside as it was a beautiful day. The kids were playing around outside and Deanna found a seagull feather. She kept holding it up and saying "here birdie, birdie" hoping it would come back and get it. She then held it in front of Grandpa and said "look what I found Grandpa-see? see?" I pulled it away from in front of his face and took her aside with the other kids. I told them to close their eyes. I explained that this was what Grandpa saw all the time as he is blind. Deanna said "his eyes are broken". I told her that for a time he was able to see but then his eyes stopped working. I explained that he used his memories to remember what things looked like just like they use their imagination and that now he can hear better than most people can because of this. She said "Jesus can make him see right?" She then said he could see Jesus and now he can hear him even better. Even though many of us can see we often don't see those things that are right in front of us-Lesson Learned!
